Let's Speak French!: A First Book of Words
Published in Paperback by Puffin (August, 1995)
Authors: Katherine Farris and Linda Hendry
Average review score:

A good introductory French book.
The watercolor pictures are a nice size, easy to see and to recognize. Underneath each picture is the French article (a, an, the) and word; under the French word is the English translation. The book covers over 500 words, including the basics (body, opposites, colors, animals, food) as well as daily tasks and sights (drying hair, skyscrapers, classroom items). At the back is an alphabetical listing of the French words with their pronunciations. My three-year-old enjoys this book, and we are having fun learning French together.

Way to Schenectady
Published in Paperback by Tundra Books (October, 1998)
Authors: Richard Scrimger and Linda Hendry
Average review score:

A Fun Read
This book, "Way to Schenectady" was a great book. The jokes were quite funny, like the things Jane thought her grandmother was saying, when her grandmother was using bad language. I couldn't put this book down when I started it, and it was a good read. I became involved in the story, hoping that the homeless man wouldn't get caught, and the ending fit the story perfectly. It was great, and I believe that this book could appeal to anyone.

Introduction to InfoMaker 7.0

Introduction to InfoMaker 7.0
Very shallow, limited, not to be used as a reference, but as a notebook for a class. If you're taking the class - fine, but not worth it without.

Good Courseware
I used this book instead of taking an InfoMaker class. I have never seen InfoMaker before and this book really helped. It is very detailed in the way it leads you through building an InfoMaker application. On the downside, it is not a good comprehensive reference but you are looking for a 'how to' book, this is the one.

Introduction to Infomaker 7.0
One Word...GOOD VERY GOOD I like..//

"Introduction to InfoMaker"
Published in Plastic Comb by Envision Software Systems (01 May, 1998)
Author: Bob Hendry
Average review score:

A Extremely basic book.
This book is extremely basic, I believe that the help files are more complete that this book. It does help but it does not go in depth at all. I think I wasted my money, because I could of read the help file and probably get more out of it. I have read introduction books on other subjects that are a lot more complete. Also, the book was very poorly printed (a whole bunch of black and white xerox copies). Since it is spiral bound in a small spiral it is hard to turn the pages. It is not worth what I paid for it.

Great Corseware or Self Study Book
Not really a reference but a step by step tutorial with labs and plenty of examples. I was going to take an InfoMaker class after I went through the book. But I don't think I need to anymore. Great job, Ill buy the 7.0 when it comes out.

Great Courseware for InfoMaker
This is what should have shipped as a tutorial for InfoMaker (are you listening Sybase?) The documentation that came with Infomaker is horrible. This book really helped. It more courseware then a book. It leads you step by step through building an InfoMaker application. Very easy to read and very plain language. Another great effort by Bob Hendry

An excellent overview on smart cards and their application
I found this book to be a very readable overview of current smart card technologies and activities. It flows logically through the various topics and offers plenty of food for thought. I believe it is most appropriate for someone who already has an interest in the area and wants to round out their knowledge. If you're looking for a book to give you an understanding of this exciting technology then I wouldn't hesitate to suggest this one.

Understanding Economic Forecasts
Published in Paperback by MIT Press (September, 2003)
Authors: David F. Hendry and Neil R. Ericsson
Average review score:

Dry but informative
This collection of essays addresses economic forecasting.
As a non-professional I found it somewhat informative but it suffered from being rather dry. It addressed forecasting from a theoretical point of view but didn't do enough to enliven a subject. There's not enough here to really show the reader how forecasting is really done and how it can be usefully employed. There is also little guidance for the lay person in how to regard forecasts, either as useless guesses to fill newspaper column inches or the time between commercial breaks on CNBC or as useful predictions on the future.

Programming With the Pfc: Power Builder 7.0
Published in Paperback by Envision Software Systems (June, 1999)
Author: Bob Hendry
Average review score:

A good book to start with pfc, but not version 7.0
In a version 7.0 of PFC, PowerBuilder created a lot of new function and events and this book did not explore that characteristics.

Good First Peek at the PFC
I liked it. Having programmed in PowerBuilder for 5 years now, I never touched the PFC. This was a good start. The PFC help with PB is very poor. This manual did a good job of leading you through building PFC applications.

On the downside, this is not a good reference. If you have a year or so experience with the PFC, this book is pretty basic.

Please be advised that this book asks you to change PBL files every now and then, otherwise the labs will not work. I e-mailed the author who reminded me that the PBL files used for the labs are listed on the front page. Then all worked fine.

All in all, not a bad job.

I liked it
Great tutorial for PFC beginners. Do beware though that PBLs change depending on the chapter. After an e-mail to the publisher, this was clear. Who actually looks at directions anyway. OPPS!... Did I feel stupid.
